About this gpa calculator

Your grade point average (GPA) sums up your results in a single number. Each letter grade is worth a number of points — on the common 4.0 scale an A is 4.0, a B is 3.0, and so on — and each course counts in proportion to its credit hours, so a heavier class affects your average more than a lighter one. This GPA calculator does that weighting for you: add a row for each course, pick the grade, type the credit hours, and your GPA and total credits update instantly. Add or remove courses as needed. It uses the standard US 4.0 scale and works entirely in your browser, so nothing you enter is stored.

Frequently asked questions

How is GPA calculated?
Each grade is turned into points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on), multiplied by the course's credit hours, added up, then divided by the total credit hours.
What grade scale does this use?
The standard US 4.0 scale, including pluses and minuses such as A- (3.7) and B+ (3.3).
Why do credit hours matter?
They weight each course. A 4-credit class counts more towards your GPA than a 1-credit class with the same grade.
